SHG Episode 084

Welcome to this week's edition of Subterranean Homesick Grooves™, a weekly electronica-based radio show presented on CHMA FM 106.9 at Mount Allison University in Atlantic Canada, and also distributed as a global podcast through iTunes and numerous other sites. The show is normally programmed and mixed by Jonathan Clark (as DJ Bolivia), although some weeks feature guest mixes by other Canadian DJ's. The show encompasses many sub-genres within the realm of electronic dance music, but the main focus is definitely on progressive and tribal house, and a small amount of trance & techno. Liner notes for this episode (084) can be seen below.

I find that, as a DJ, I rarely get time to listen to music "for fun" because I'm always doing research and being pretty analytical. However, last night, I was driving and someone in the truck asked to hear one of my radio show episodes. I played one at a good volume, uninterrupted for a full hour while driving through the desert at night under a nearly full moon, and it reminded me that these mixes are really great driving music. So whether the sun is up or the night is dark, put this show into your car's stereo and crank up the volume if you're going for a long drive! I always appreciate any feedback that listeners want to leave, either by emailing me at djbolivia@gmail.com or by posting on my fan page on facebook. This week's show was recorded in Kamloops, British Columbia.

This week, I put the show together in Williams Lake, British Columbia. I was experimenting with off-beat mixing this week. Very tough to do well. It's easy enough to keep a steady beat while you're doing it, but making it sound good is always a challenge. But when it works, it sounds SO good. I tried it with several mixes in this week's show, and some turned out better than others. Anyway, I always appreciate any feedback that listeners want to leave, either by emailing me at djbolivia@gmail.com or by posting on my fan page on facebook.

This week, I put the show together in Victoria, British Columbia. I feel that the direction that I've taken with the show in the past month or so is starting to feel pretty comfortable for me. I'm still starting off with a bit of restraint, but I've been really trying to keep the beat driving throughout the show, with far fewer breakdowns than I used to have in the first seventy episodes. It's an approach that has worked well for me on the dance floor for the past few years, so why not do the same with my radio show? Anyway, I always appreciate any feedback that listeners want to leave, either by emailing me at djbolivia@gmail.com or by posting on my fan page on facebook.
